Aberdeen-based OEG Offshore (OEG) has appointed a new director to drive forward its plans for global expansion.
Ross Baird, 62, will be responsible for the basket and container division of OEG, which specialises in the design, build and rental of cabins and cargo-carrying units for the offshore oil and gas market.
With more than 25 years in the offshore service industry, including 15 years' experience in the container rental sector, Ross joins OEG from container trading consultancy Offshore Containers & Tanks Ltd; a supplier of containers, baskets and tanks that specialises in refrigerated and freezer units. Ross set up the company in 2006, advising and liaising with clients in West Africa, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan about the supply of DNV 2.7-1 units.
Prior to setting up his own business, Ross held the role of managing director at CTC Container Trading – the offshore division of global container hire company Interpool – where he headed up a fleet of 2,500 units. Having worked with various committees involved in the safety of offshore container handling, including Stepchange, Ross played a key role in introducing DNV 2.7-1/EN 12079 standards to the UK North Sea.
Ross commented: “I am really looking forward to working with OEG; it is a rapidly growing company with global ambitions and I hope to use my experience in the container industry to help to implement its operations worldwide.”
OEG chief executive John Heiton added: “Ross is an integral member of the local and international container trade community and he has been involved in many key bodies that have implemented standards and safety records for offshore container handling in the UK North Sea.
“Ross's expertise in the container rental business, combined with his experience with clients in the West African and Asian regions, will also strengthen OEG's plans for global expansion and he will provide a valuable insight when working with clients in these parts of the world in the future.”
